2018 short-story contest COVER and TITLE

UPDATE: THURSDAY
Cover #1 seems to be winning your approval at a rate of nearly 3:1. I think it's safe to say the cover #1 wins for the 2018 contest cover. Thanks for speaking up!

This is supposed to be an ANDI'S JOURNAL post day, but Mrs. M postponed it until next Monday (watch for it). She is getting the Official Rules and the Awesome Prizes ready for the upcoming annual CCA short-story writing contest, and she needs a graphic of the potential cover to go on the prize graphic. The title can change, so if you think of another one you like better than this one, just write your ideas in the comments below. This came from an enthusiastic fan who is looking forward to the contest. (Thanks, Sadie.) She had a long list, and I grabbed one that I liked too.

Readers also send me pictures on occasion, and while I like them a lot, I can't display them here for you to vote on, as I can't find any of the suggested pictures on the Deposit Photo site. I got a super deal, 100 downloads for $39.00. The two you see here came from Deposit Photo, but I don't want to download a bunch more after I've already gotten these two. How about voting for the one you like best? #1 or #2? Just leave your vote in the comments. (If you absolutely HATE either of them, then go to Deposit Photos, copy the number of one you think will work better, and leave it in the comments. I'll go look at it.)

I'll give you until the end of the week, and then I need to get that prize graphic created.
Thanks!

  9. Okay, I can already tell it's pretty much going to be a "tie," and I'm going to have to decide myself anyway. But I LOVE all of your enthusiasm. THANKS!

  10. I was torn, as I really do like cover #1 best, but I thought it might be a little too "busy." But when I put cover #2 up, I thought it was a little too bare and plain. *BIG SIGH* Another author friend said cover 2 didn't have a "focus," i.e. too many horses. I didn't think about that. She's probably right.

Oh, the dilemma! But at any rate, either one is prettier than the old series of contest books 2013-2016. I'm done with silhouettes. These are fresh and new! I'm glad you like them!

    1. I see what you mean by cover 2 not having a focus, but I think it kinda nice cause it shows that since its a ranch and ranchs would have more then one horse and there is more then one horse in the story's (there is a lot more) but they are both great. I like how they both have the sunset in the background..they are fresh and new:)..

  11. I'm stuck.
At first glance, I thought cover #1 was better. Mainly because of the lack of "focus", like you said, Mrs M, in cover #2. But then, as I started thinking about it more, I was like, well... cover #2 looks so peaceful. And the grassy slope...with the cute little foals playing in there...it looks like a horse lover's dream scene. But...on the other hand...cover #1 is also peaceful. And the horse is sooo pretty!
And it's definitely more balanced and focused---- Oh well. I could never choose. But I think the name is absolutely perfect.

  12. I really like them both, but I'll have to say #1. The single horse pulls your eye more.<3

  14. I really like cover #1 best, though they both are really neat! :-D

  15. Well, it's hard for me to pick... Both are nice, but I was wondering if you purposefully decided to deviate from the silhouette on contest cover books, or you just forgot about the theme? Cause all the other contest books have the common thread of the silhouette on the front, and so perhaps it would be nice to stick with that theme? I think it ties them together really well. But Idk, it's just my personal opinion/idea, so feel free to shoot it down. :-)

    1. I am keeping the same title font and the same colored banner strip with the "2018 Contest Winners" to keep them somewhat alike. But I figured I would do them in "threes": 3 silhouette books, and then move on to three of something else, like what I have here. I don't want them to look ALL too much alike or you get them mixed up, a little like the Circle C Adventures covers all being tan. But wait until Friday. You will see something new on Photo Friday. :-)

  19. Both of those book covers are so pretty but i just have to go with #1. The horse on the front catches my eye. Can't wait for the results!

  20. There is more room for the title on #2, which I think makes it look more professional and makes it easier to read.

  21. I like cover 1 best. :) Personally, The horses in #2 look... fake to me ;P

  22. They are both awesome, but I'lll have to go with cover #1

  23. They are both lovely! I think I'll have to go with #1 though :) 1 seems more in focus and your eyes are drawn to the horse. On the other hand, 2 has a bit too much going on below the title, the swishing tail, grass, foals nuzzling. Also it has a bunch of empty space between the horses and the title.

  24. Aw, I love them both! I think I will have to go with cover #1, though. It seems more cheerful to me.

  25. Hard to choose, but #2 has too much space at the top with all the sky, but #1 looks too much like more of a fairytale. I think I like #1 best.
