Contest book cover?

NOTE: first rough draft!
I know I shouldn't do this, but when Samantha mentioned a night sky idea, I happened to be resting from cleaning and I just got all excited. So I took a low-res picture from Dreamstime to practice on. (If I decide to use it I will buy it of course!) So, ignore the "watermark" and have fun with me! I LOVE designing covers. This is rough, rough, rough, but hey . . . I have until next February to come up with a cover.

I'll probably put together 3 or 4 cover designs (depending on how energetic I am) and then maybe have another voting contest. Those are always fun, and look at the great titles you guys came up with.

P.S. I am thinking of using Create Space this time around. Then the book would be available on Amazon. Wouldn't that be fun? Pray for me. I don't know how to use that publishing method, but Rebekah (from Rebekah's Reading Room) does. She is going to be one of my judges, so perhaps she can "hold my hand" and the Create Space book can become a reality!

  3. I think a sunset would be good to try too.

And yes, I'd be happy to help you get the book published with CreateSpace. :) It really is easy once you get started and this way you wouldn't have to order more books than you needed and anyone could buy it from Amazon. You could also turn it into a kindle book from CreateSpace so any international readers could get it and not have to pay shipping. (Can you tell I like CreateSpace? ;) )

    1. Yes, I've been wanting to try Create Space. I was going to do it if Kregel didn't pick up my Tales from the Circle C Ranch, but they picked it up fast and it's coming out next April. So . . . I will use my contest books to give Create Space a try. And yes, a Kindle version would be great too! Thanks, Rebekah!

  4. You guys are great! That is the simplest cover I've ever designed. Grab a Dreamstine or iStock photo and slap on a title, a black band at the top, and done!

Okay, here's what you need to do. Go to iStock or Dreamstime and find some sunset pictures and post the LINK in a comment and I'll take a look at them.

  14. I thought at first that a girl would be good to have on the cover, but if the book has Goldtown stories in it, wouldn't it be better to have the rider be far away so it could be either boy or girl? Just a thought.

  15. When I first heard the title I thought of a sunset sky :)

I saw more ideas for that but I thought I would add my vote! :)
