The Many Faces of Chad

I don't know about you, but when I write, I like to find pictures of my characters. So in response to popular request, I am posting the various pictures I've used for "Chad" so far. Which do you think is the closest to what you envision him as?

This first picture is the real Chad, my son (and who Chad is sort of modeled after). Not totally, but close enough. Here he is putting up fencing--barbed wire--on our 14 acres. Doing what a rancher does, I guess . . . I like it, but it is not authentic, as the sweatshirt he's wearing isn't exactly 1880s rancher attire. He is the same age as the Circle C Chad here: twenty-seven.

This next picture (to the left) is my grandfather back in the early 20th century. He really reminds me of Chad, but the only picture I have is black and white, and not of the best quality.

I found this next picture on my Clip Art Photo CD, which gives me permission to use the photos. But while this might be a good representation of Chad and a total "unknown" model to me, that is definitely NOT his horse, Sky. This horse is not my vision of any Carter horse. So I usually crop the picture just to show Chad and not the horse.

I used this small picture for a year or two, then I decided this character reminded me more of Jem and Ellie's father in the Goldtown series (seems older), so I abandoned this model. LOL

And finally, here is one last picture I have never used, but this one reminds me of Chad too.

There you have it, loyal readers. The many faces of Chad. So, which one would you vote for? I pretty much have picked the Clip Art CD photo, as that one has the fewest complications . . . I can officially use it for free and not violate any copyright laws.

  6. I do like the last one but the clip art one is good too. It looks like Chad having a good time out on the ranch.

    1. When I got the picture (it was much larger, and he and his friend were standing together) I saw the wavy dark hair and I knew my grandfather (Hubert) had blue eyes, so I was excited that it reminded me of "Chad." It's just too bad this is the only one one I have of him. And now you now why I was changing the pictures around so much. :-)

    2. I did not delete it, so that must mean Calamity removed it. I saw the comment in my email notifications, and I think she just goofed and wanted to re-comment or something. :-) No biggie!

  19. Hmm...I would actually say that I like the "real" Chad best, the top one, except for the attire. :) I like to use family modals in my books too, and since I come from a family of ten kids, its pretty easy to make the character's personalities differ realistically. Are you using your grandkids (aka Justin R & Nate R) as personalities in your books? Just wondering...

    1. Nate is Jem's cousin in the Goldtown Adventures, and their cousin Kaetlyn is "Ellie" (click the Goldtown link and I think there is a picture of Ellie there). Kaetlyn is also the "Andi" model when she was 6 and the Andi's voice for the Circle C Beginnings book trailer. So, yes, I guess you could say that. :-)

  20. Mrs. M? How many fan stories do you have left? I was just wondering when you were going to post my pictures that I drew up of Andi's house. There's no hurry I was just wondering...:)
