The Many Faces of Chad
I don't know about you, but when I write, I like to find pictures of my characters. So in response to popular request, I am posting the various pictures I've used for "Chad" so far. Which do you think is the closest to what you envision him as?
This first picture to the right is the real Chad, my son (and who Chad is sort of modeled after). Not totally, but close enough. Here he is putting up fencing--barbed wire--on our 14 acres. Doing what a rancher does, I guess . . . I like it, but it is not authentic, as the sweatshirt he's wearing isn't exactly 1880s rancher attire. He is the same age as the Circle C Chad here: twenty-seven.
This next picture (to the left) is my grandfather back in the early 20th century. He really reminds me of Chad, but the only picture I have is black and white, and not of the best quality.
I found this next picture on my Clip Art Photo CD, which gives me permission to use the photos. But while this might be a good representation of Chad and a total "unknown" model to me, that is definitely NOT his horse, Sky. This horse is not my vision of any Carter horse. So I usually crop the picture just to show Chad and not the horse.
I used this small picture for a year or two, then I decided this character reminded me more of Jem and Ellie's father in the Goldtown series (seems older), so I abandoned this model. LOL
And finally, here is one last picture I have never used, but this one reminds me of Chad too.
There you have it, loyal readers. The many faces of Chad. So, which one would you vote for? I pretty much have picked the Clip Art CD photo, as that one has the fewest complications . . . I can officially use it for free and not violate any copyright laws.
