Photo Friday: Pictures from Town

Becci asked for some town pictures, so here you go. First of all, I thought you'd like to see a map of my town. (This is an actual layout, and many of the places in the Map Key are the real locations of buildings in 1880.) The only places that are "made up" for the stories are Justin's office, Blake's (as in Cory) Livery, and Goodwin's (as in Jack) Mercantile. Keep scrolling down to see pictures of the real places like the bank and church.

This is a real-life grocery store, called "Robinsons."This store was actually located on the west corner of Kern and K Streets. Can you find its location on the map above?

Here is the church Andi and her family attend. It's actual location is on the corner of Fresno and K Streets.

This is the Fresno County Courthouse, located in Courthouse Park. It's real but the location of Justin's law office on Tulare Street near the courthouse is fiction. :-)

The corner of Inyo and J Streets holds the Fresno County Bank. You can see why Andi was not real excited about entering such a forbidding-looking building in Price of Truth to try to withdraw money from her account!
Below is a real-life clothing store, located on the corner of Mariposa and I Streets.
I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of my town. Oh, and two more. The Fresno Grammar School was located on Ventura, between J and K Streets. Below is not a picture of the actual school there, but one that look very much like the school I attend. And just below that . . . the Circle C ranch!
My school

The Circle C Ranch; can you see the collection of house and outbuildings?

  1. Hey Andi, have you heard from Riley lately? Has he ever come back to visit? If he did, do you think him and Cory would be friends?
    Thanks!

  5. Andi, do you really live on a ranch in reality? And do you have any other interests then riding horses? ~Emma

    1. The "author" lives on a 14-acre homestead in ranching country, but she does not have a horse (anymore). Does that answer your question?

    2. Oh and I (Andi) like to fish and read Dime Novels. I also like to rope and race and climb trees and . . . whatever is going on outdoors.

  6. Nice pictures Andi!
I was wondering, what ever happened to Taffy's foals? What did you name them?
Also, what happened to Riley's horse Midnight?
Were you ever able to mount him by yourself? ;)
    I LOVE your blog!:D

    1. Oh, what happens to Taffy's foals will be the subject of a new Andi book, Meg, if my publisher goes for it. You will have to wait and see! :-)

As far as mounting Midnight, you bet I did! The very next year when I turned 7 I finally figured it out. Whoosh! And Riley took Midnight with him when he was finally able to be reunited with his mother and father (and she got well).

      Hope that answered it!

  7. I was thinking, I was looking at your comments about Taffy for if you write the older Andi books, & I think that she should stay in them, because she would only be about 10 years old. (right?)
We have a stallion that is 30 years old this year, and he is the healthiest horse that we have. :) and we also know of a horse that was in her 40's and was still able to have foals! (yikes!) :D
I think it would still work for Taffy to be in them. :D
just a thought, hope it doesn't offend you. :)

    1. Hey, Meg, of course it doesn't offend me! :-)
I welcome all kinds of ideas. Here's the thing . . . it issn't like Taffy is going to die of old age or anything. I knew that. It's . . . well . . . it's kind of dramatic the way she has to die (if I do it), and opens the door to all kinds of dramatic plot twists and turns. Since the books will be geared to YA (teens) rather than little kids, I think I can make it work. But my editor at Kregel may NOT go for it.
      We will have to see.

  9. I love this post! I just wanted to let you know that I'm very excited by the prospect of an older Andi series aimed at young adults/older teens, and as I know they would be wonderful books, I really hope your publisher agrees! It's such an awfully long process to get something published, but I know we're all very excited! Thanks for lovely books and an great blog!

  10. I love the pictures Andi! They let me into a little of your world. Say, who was the little girl that did Andi's voice advertising the early readers books? Her little voice is so cute!

    1. Oh, I missed that one! Sorry! Any of the streets that are heading roughly east will take you to the ranch: Tulare, Kern, Fresno Streets, to name a few. The ranch is near the foothills, and the foothills are EAST of town.

    1. Yes. Dr. Weaver has an office in town. It's on Kern Street, but it's not on the map. Sorry!

    1. Where do you think it should be? :-)
Maybe on Front and Mono, by the train depot?
I can't get a grip on where it actually was. But I've seen a picture of it before.

    2. That sounds good. Kind of off to the side. Is there a specific part of Fresno that's residential?

      Delete
    3. Not really. I know there were houses on K Street, which they called "Nob Hill," because it was a little higher than the rest of the flat valley, and the rich people lived there. LOL

But the town was pretty small, with houses no doubt wherever people decided to build them.
